V2 Ducktail lip spoiler Mazda MX-5 MIATA NB/NBFL

After printing and fitting my V1 ducktail lip spoiler to my MX-5 I found that it could be a little bigger and smoother. So I revisited my 3D scan and came up with a completly new design. V2 is a little bigger and a lot smoother, also the fitment is just a little nicer then with V1. To print the spoiler you'll have to slice it into multiple pieces. After printing you'll have to use a strong glue to fix the pieces together. (If you need any help with this. Send me a message and I will slice the pieces for you). You could also use Cura to print the model in a negative. This will essentially give you a mold of the spoiler where You can then lay in fibreglass or even carbon fiber. Not only would this be lighter and stronger, But a carbon fiber spoiler would be even cooler looking. In the future I do want to try printing a spoiler as a mold. Don't use PLA, but use PETG, ABS or some other filament that's UV resistant. Picture 1-3 show the spoiler right after paint. The spoiler has been molded to the bootlid by a professional. Pictures 4-5 show the spoiler with no bodywork done at all. This is how it will look after you're done printing. The last picture is after reinforcing the spoiler with fibreglass and smoothing out with bodyfiller. Little disclaimer: I'm in no way shape or form a professional in bodywork or paint. This was the first time I ever used fiberglass and also the first time I paintmatched something to my car. So obviously there are some imperfections in the spoiler, but overall I think it looks decent. License: private use only. I give no permission to resell my design, printed or files. UPDATE 10-06-2023: I smoothed out the 3D printed layers and I'm now prepping it for paint! UPDATE 18-06-2023: Afther smoothing out the full print I found out it could use some extra strength. So I fiberglassed over it (something i would recommend doing before smoothing out the 3d printed lines...). After that I sanded the fibreglass smooth and applied bodyfiller where necessary. The only thing I need to do before paint is fill all the little pinholes in the fibreglass. After that it's off to paint! UPDATE 24-06-2023: The spoiler is painted and on the car! The colormatch isn't perfect. Also the 2K clear has quite a bit of orange peel. I'll wait a few weeks before I wet sand with 3000 grit and polish the paint. UPDATE 22-10-2023: Soon my MX-5 will be getting a wheelarch rust repair along with a repaint. The spoiler will then be permanently mounted and molded into the bootlid. UPDATE 23-12-2023: My MX-5 is back and looking better than ever. The ducktail project is now complete.
